Fairy Queen

Theatre Poster

Design a poster for Henry Purcell's 'The Fairy Queen'.

I focused on the motif of the eye for this project, because there are several moment throughout the play, where characters fall in love with who they lay their eyes on. Similarly, characters spy on each other throughout the play, and in the poster, they are doing just this. I also believed using the eye in a poster is a strong visual, which can caputre the attention of the viewer, while giving them a slight indication of what is to come.

The difference in style of the eyes, from photography to animated, also give insight to the story of characters living in a dream world, or a fantasy. This is pushed further with red colour to the eyes, as if they are looking through rose tinted glasses.
